Throughout life, time has always seemed like it’s either inching along at the rate of a century old turtle or it’s zooming by at warp speed. It’s one or the other, an intermittent toss-up, depending on my current circumstance (i.e. it tends to become the old, dragging turtle at work and morph into the speed of light the moment I get off’ go figure).

Every Pregnancy progresses differently, so like me, you may or may not have experienced some of these symptoms at this stage in your Pregnancy. School started on Wednesday, and I took my 40-ounce water bottle with me, but two out of three days, I was on campus later than I expected, so I didn’t get home to lunch and more water until mid-afternoon. Pregnancy: Week 29, 30 and 31- Things are Heating Up | Me, Myself ...I swear one day I’m going to stop reminiscing about my Pregnancy with Moanna because as soon as I go, ‘Huh. I haven’t had that Pregnancy ailment with Deuce like I did with Moanna. I wonder when it’s coming.’ I get hit with said symptom.

The rising temperatures and my increasedobeseness is starting to slow me down. It takes at least twice as long as it used for me to complete tasks. I can only accomplish so much before I get winded and exhausted. After a load of laundry and cleaning up the kitchen I need a nap. I need to stop for a water break when I get to the top of the stairs ‘ so pathetic. Also, if I’m too active Deuce suddenly goes from feeling like a sweet little growing baby to a lead bowling ball being dropped into my pelvis, and then for fun I’ll get hit with some Braxton Hicks contractions and as an added bonus some times my feet get hot and puffy. My feet also get hot and fat if I sit still for too long without elevating them.

Most recently, hot flashes that leave me soaking in sweat and pretty much being hot all the live long day and night. With Moanna, I remember having hot flashes on a regular basis and waking up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat. The first few months I was pregnant with Deuce, I had some hot flashes, but they were the kind that I’ve grown accustomed to each month during PMS season, not the soaking in sweat and tearing off my clothes kind. After that, didn’t have anythermostatissues for months. Until NOW. The first time this flattering development hit was during church when I was talking about faith during relief society. I don’t mind speaking in front of people. Idon’tget nervous, shaky, hot or sweaty when I have to talk in front people. However, about 45 seconds into my little blurb I was hot and red and sweating. These hot flashes come at any time, but mostly it happens at night ‘ it’s just one more thing to keep me from getting any sleep.

pregnancy: week 29 «And, finally, Week 2 of natural birth class went well, with the exception that I was horrible about tracking my food intake last Week (and the teacher asked us to record & submit our eating patterns), and that I might have gotten Jason into trouble. At the end of class, we did a relaxation/meditation exercise, and all of the other couples were cozying up, and I look at Jason and go, ‘you don’t need to touch me’. So we plop down on the floor ‘ separately ‘ and the teacher looks at Jason and says, ‘the point is to make her comfortable.’ I tried to save him by mentioning that I just wanted to be left alone to relax ‘ that I’d be distracted by him ‘ but I’m sure the rest of the couples in the class think we’re headed for divorce court.

Also this Week, we planted seeds for this summer’s vegetable garden (which will be Jason’s baby once I’m too big or too busy with Rico). And I’ve been cleaning up the flower gardens around the house’ It’s no small feat since a) they’re pretty big, b) I was too sick/tired last fall to properly clean & weed them, and c) we live in the woods and are constantly inundated with weeds. Oh, yes, and also. We’ve seen ferile cats wandering the yard in the past, so I am a bit paranoid about contracting toxoplasmosis (a potential Rico-killer) and insist on wearing latex gloves any time I even think about touching anything outside. It’s really something.

Pregnancy Week 30: All About You

A few more weeks to go! Your baby weight is starting to impact your lifestyle. Bending over is tricky if not impossible. And tying your shoes? Forget about it. As your baby-to-be crowds your internal organs you may experience more heartburn, indigestion, and flatulence. Breathing may be more difficult as your lungs have less room to expand.

Tired of Being Pregnant?
By this point the novelty of your baby bump may have worn off—you’re getting downright tired of being pregnant. In a few weeks your aches and pains will be a distant memory as you stare into your newborn’s face, but for now there are a few simple things you can do to make your last few pregnancy weeks more comfortable.

Complaint: No sleep. Your baby bump makes it hard to find a comfortable sleeping position. Add to that the discomfort caused by your internal organs making room for your growing baby-to-be: Your lungs have to work harder to provide the extra oxygen your body needs, creating shortness of breath. Your stomach is pushed up, making heartburn and indigestion likely. And your bladder—well—you’re already used to going to the bathroom several times a day, and making similar trips at night can be frustrating.

Solution: Try positioning pillows around your body for support. Have your partner massage your sore body before bedtime. Take a hot shower or warm bath to help you relax. For fewer bathroom breaks, don’t drink water an hour or so before going to bed (but make sure to drink plenty of water during the day). If all else fails, talk to your healthcare provider about over-the-counter medications that might make sleeping easier.

Complaint: Swelling. Swelling can become a real problem late in pregnancy. Your body retains water to supply your increased blood production (which goes up by 50 percent during pregnancy). You may find your face, ankles, and fingers swell to the point your shoes don’t fit and your rings won’t go on (or come off!).

Solution: Drink lots of water. Pushing fluids can ease your swelling. Also, be smart about what you do during the day. Don’t stand on your feet or stay in any position too long or your blood will pool, making swelling even worse. Change positions frequently and put your feet up as much as possible to increase circulation. Talk to your doctor if swelling becomes severe.

Complaint: Potty breaks. Frequent urination is a common complaint during pregnancy. It can become a nuisance to find a restroom any time you go somewhere. As your baby-to-be continues to grow, the pressure on your bladder will too, meaning your potty breaks will keep increasing until your baby’s birth.

Solution: The only real solution is to have your baby. Don’t limit your visits to the bathroom—holding in urine for too long can lead to urinary or bladder infections.

Complaint: No clothes. Toward the end of your pregnancy those cute maternity clothes that once neatly covered your baby bump may barely fit. Plus, you’re probably wearing the same outfits over and over again, since non-maternity clothes are out.

Solution: Having something new to wear can brighten your mood. If you don’t want to sink more money into a wardrobe that will last only a few weeks, ask friends if they have any maternity clothes they’re willing to lend. Spice up your own maternity clothes by buying non-maternity, button-down shirts or sweaters to pair with your maternity wear. Choose colorful jewelry or handbags to add variety to your wardrobe (and you can wear those even when you’re no longer pregnant!).

Your baby’s face looks much like it will when he’s born. He still needs to fill out more to get the characteristic chubby infant cheeks, but he’s on his way. He can move his head, open his eyes, and make breathing movements through his open nostrils (although no air comes in).
